The 39 Steps

By Patrick Barlow

We are very pleased to present this madcap comedy, following its recent successful run in the West End. Join Richard Hannay as he encounters dastardly murders, double-crossing secret agents, and, of course, devastatingly beautiful women. Presented with a cast of just 4 people, and with most actors playing multiple roles, this guarantees to be an evening not easily forgotten.

The show ran from the 21st – 24th March, 7.30pm, with a 2.30pm Saturday Matinee.

Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have the intriguing, thrilling, riotous and unmissable comedy, The 39 Steps.

Richard Hannay, a man with a dull life, meets a woman with a strong accent claiming to be a spy. After she is killed in his flat, Richard Hannay becomes a fugitive and travels North by North West with a Spellbound blonde to Scotland's most remote highlands, pursued by a mysterious organisation called 'the 39 Steps'. Will they save Britain from a den of devious spies? And just what are the 39 steps?

A cast of four actors plays over 150 characters in this fast-paced tale of spies, intrigue, handcuffs, missing fingers and some good, old fashioned romance! The 39 Steps contains every single legendary scene from the award-winning movie - including the chase on the Flying Scotsman, the escape on the Forth Bridge, even a bi-plane crash, all leading to the sensational, death defying finale in the London Palladium.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you our 'Richard Hannay', lead character in our upcoming production of The 39 Steps. Naive, innocent in his approach to others, and very uncertain around women, Richard Hannay is very much the wrong person in the wrong place at the wrong time....but will he save the day?
This suspicious character has been seen hanging around The 39 Steps rehearsals. It is believed he is a 'heavy', working for 'The Prof', a mysterious underworld figure, and that he has been tasked with stopping Richard Hannay at ANY cost.
He must be stopped!!
'Margaret' is the farmer’s wife, a shy young woman who dreams of life and adventure in the city. At the tender age of 18 years old she is married to Richard Hannay.
